Society of St Vincent de Paul

President: Clare Farrell

Secretary: Margaret Jones

Treasurer: Paul Cullen

At present we have 12 active members The Society operates in small groups, called "Conferences", based on local parishes or schools. We meet as a conference at 8pm on Monday evenings every other week in the presbytery at St. Joseph's to review our work as well as to allocate future work in a spirit of prayer and mutual support.

The work of a Conference is usually concentrated on local visiting. Visits are made to individuals and families, to the sick at home or in hospitals and hospices, to residential homes. Loneliness, especially among the elderly is growing, so members spend a lot of time visiting housebound people to prevent them from feeling isolated. Many appreciate a friendly face and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea, knowing that someone cares. Support may extend to doing shopping, decorating, gardening, filling in official forms and ensuring they are receiving their statutory benefits.

We are always looking to increase our membership, so if you would like to know more please contact us through the parish email address or find one of us at Mass or even come to our next Monday meeting.
